Walls That Hold, and Drain

Central Florida is mostly flat, but plenty of yards still have a change in level: a slope down to a lake or retention pond, a raised pool area, a sunken patio, or a garden bed that washes out onto the lawn every time it rains. A retaining wall turns that slope into usable, level ground and keeps the soil where it belongs.

What makes a wall last is what happens behind it. Water trapped in the soil pushes on a wall far harder than the soil does, so the wall goes on a compacted footing with free-draining gravel behind it, and a drain pipe where the site needs one, so rain can get out instead of building up pressure. Taller walls need more: a deeper footing, reinforcement grid in the backfill and, above a certain height, an engineered design and a permit. We will tell you up front what your wall needs.

Not every wall is holding back a hill. Low seat walls around a patio or fire pit give you permanent seating without the clutter of extra chairs, and raised planters bring a garden up to a comfortable height. Both are built from the same interlocking block and finished with matching caps.

We build with segmental wall block that interlocks without mortar, in a range of colors and textures that can match or set off your pavers.
